Exploring the Liminal: Designer as Nomad

Thursday, March 27 – Friday, May 23
Spencer Presentation Gallery
Thursday, April 10
Reception:  5:00 – 7:00 PM
Lecture/Presentation: “Inspiration + Motivation = Innovation”: 7:00 – 8:00 PM
Rose Performance Hall

For more than two decades as a design practitioner and educator, Jan Moscowitz has adapted to whatever context she finds herself in. Her graphic approach reflects the diversity of her life experiences, from her early design exposure growing up as the daughter of an artist, to her academic degree in marketing, her European design studies and her skills as a typographer.  The exhibition will showcase areas of problem-solving, inspiration, collaboration, wit and beauty through work created in the areas of identity systems, posters, brochures and books. The works lie somewhere between the rigors of design as discipline and the freedom of art, the effective symbiosis of client and designer, rationality and creativity.  At the primary level, a designer responds to and solves others’ problems. As a nomad, a designer is able to move from one context to another and one discipline to another, with the ability to understand and speak in her client's voice, without sacrificing her own.

Regional members and educators will be invited to submit proposals for a panel discussion and individual presentations for this “pop-up”conference titled “Current Issues in Photographic Education: bridging the

The conference is co-chaired by Bruce Myren, the Northeast Region president and Larry Volk, faculty in the School of Visual and Performing Arts at Endicott College, and will be broadcast live via Google hangout.  The proceedings will be made available for viewing online following the conference.
